WHAT IS  SHIATSU?

Shiatsu is a compleLeg stretchmentary bodywork therapy, a “Japanese physiotherapy” that literally means finger (shi) pressure (atsu). It works the entire body through stretching, massage, gentle joint manipulation, and pressure techniques to balance the energy of the body. Shiatsu follows the same basics principles of acupuncture, using finger pressure instead of needles.
An ancient oriental practice, shiatsu has only relatively recently (since the 80’s) been applied to horses. Its popularity is increasing all the time as people have begun to experience for themselves and their horses the profound results that shiatsu can have.

TREATMENT
What is involved in a treatment?
Case history
: this is taken on the first visit and involves various questions about your horse such as health, appetite, injuries, work, etc…This is helping to give important background information to know the horse better.
The treatment is next and will last anything up to one hour depending on each case. Peace and quietness are a great help to work on the horse as well as some space.
Following the treatment I can show the owner some techniques to be done on their horse and that will help in between sessions.
Rest is also important after the treatment, at least the day off and if possible the next one.
Shiatsu is not a “quick fix”, occasionally a situation is resolved after one session, but three sessions are more usual and a longer term commitment is better to achieve lasting results.    [Top of Page]
